Does Blackbeard’s treasure actually exist or is it just a legend only seen in movies?

The legend of Blackbeard and the treasure he supposedly left behind is perhaps one of the most mysterious and fascinating stories about a notorious pirate ever known. Even though the looters left behind other “treasures,” Blackbeard’s hiding place is extremely uncertain, but that hasn’t stopped treasure hunters from searching for the hiding place anyway. Those who believe in his existence will leave no stone unturned (literally) in their search for the vast amounts of gold and loot this pirate is said to have amassed. However, experts are not entirely sure whether this is actually the case Is to find everything.

Without some verifiable clues and a clue in the form of a real treasure map – by the way, it didn’t exist – all hope of discovering the famous fortune seems lost. However, the island isn’t that big… and there certainly aren’t many places where an estimated $12.5 million in treasure could be hidden without eventually being found. Further evidence that advances this theory is that Blackbeard’s ship, Queen Anne’s Revenge, sank off the coast of the island. However, it was discovered that nothing was found on the ship after the British boarded it and that it was never found again after its sinking. That in itself is still a huge mystery that has yet to be solved. Although other ships were found and identified, Blackbeard’s only ship and the last place he was seen alive was never discovered.

In theory, this would mean that the ship is still lying somewhere on the ocean floor, possibly holding a key to the hiding place of its captain’s treasure. However, there is the “ghost ship” theory, which would only be appropriate if Blackbeard’s ship was still prowling the coast late at night looking for ships to plunder…

The reason Blackbeard’s fortune remains such a mystery is the fact that other pirate treasures have already been found. It’s not easy and many stumble upon it by accident, but it’s been done before. Back in 2014, the 1717 ship “Whydah” was found on the ocean floor off the coast of Cape Cod. When the dive team found the ship, they found historically significant artifacts from its captain – Black Sam Bellamy – as well as a hoard of tens of thousands of coins. While they remained somewhat intact at the bottom of the ocean, the fact is that they were not hidden and were found without a map – just clues left through witness accounts.

In the case of Thomas Tew, known to many visitors to the St. Augustine Pirate and Treasure Museum, a real chest was used to hide and conceal his treasure. Contrary to popular belief, this was not a common activity for all pirates, even though Hollywood liked to claim it was. Tew’s treasure was estimated at around $102 million, meaning Blackbeard’s isn’t nearly as huge. However, according to the notes left by Blackbeard, he had a secondary “treasure” which he called the “true” treasure. Because it was hidden, it was said that it told the world that it “lay in a known place.” only him and the devil.’

Blackbeard still haunts people in North Carolina and Virginia today

Many don’t know that Blackbeard lived in North Carolina, primarily in Bath, and sailed the surrounding waters for much of his life. People feel Blackbeard’s presence strongly throughout the state, especially near the coast. For many, Blackbeard is something of an urban legend. He is not only a pirate who went down in history as a first-class thief, but also an experienced captain.

In addition, Blackbeard is also said to keep an eye on fishermen and travelers floating and lying on the beaches of First Landing in Virginia, with the night being particularly spooky. Again, this could easily be folklore, but Blackbeard was a real person who terrorized real people and communities.
