US treasure hunter digs in Staten Island Park using clues from a 1982 book, but finds nothing

There is so much information hidden in history books that we are often shocked. We are unaware of the surprising things around us. Something similar happened to a person in the USA. He read the 1982 book “The Secret: A Treasure Hunt” by Byron Preiss and Sean Kelly. In the book he finds out that there is a treasure hidden on Staten Island.

According to the New York Post, David Hager, 58, a Colorado resident, with his wife Michelle and two sons, began digging in a small park early in the morning at 6 a.m. He said the book said there was a treasure hidden in that spot. The spot had been dug before, but nothing was found because people didn’t understand the clues properly.

Hager is a geologist and science teacher who now owns a college planning service. He said there are two things in the book that no one has been able to understand until now. “We listened carefully. We believe that the treasure should be in this place in the park. There were two things [in the book] “Nobody could figure that out. We have it under control. It has to be here,” he told the New York Post.

It is said that Preiss buried keys and helmets in 12 cities across North America in the early 1980s. This book gives detailed clues about these locations. Based on his book, many locations were excavated and only three of the locations in Chicago, Cleveland and Boston were ever found. Preiss died in a car accident on Long Island in 2005.

Hager and his family had traveled from Denver to spend the holiday weekend digging. They brought shovels, battery-powered drills and underground cameras. If Hager finds a helmet and a key, he can trade the key to Preiss’ estate for a particular gemstone, which he believes is a topaz and is worth about $2,000, or about Rs. 166,000. They are doing this work in secret and do not want to tell anyone about the dig site because they do not have a permit to dig.

Hager said they practiced behind their house before arriving, trying out different tools and techniques to make sure they didn’t have any trouble digging. So far, the family has dug to a depth of 30 feet, but hasn’t found the treasure yet.
